Nathan Golub / Wood Ear - Nothing in Return

From the first tone that came out of my speakers, I knew this will be too short.

On this new release on Hello Good Friend Tapes, Nathan Golub shares the cassette with his friend, singer-songwriter Nate Tarr aka Wood Ear.

Nothing in Return starts with Nathan, playing a slow burning kind of country blues. After three minutes it stops and Golub gets the engine running. Fingerstyle guitar and a wonderful bouncing groove with a pedal steel yawning in the the background. Seriously, this jam could go on forever. Liberty Drive In is perfect to drive around on this first warm spring day. (Even if I not necessarily encourage aimless drives)

This track also reminds me on the only good track on the Vanguard John Fahey Tribute I Am The Resurrection. and has also some William Tyler vibes.

On the B-Side, Nathan helps out Wood Ear on the pedal steel. Blossom Normad is an eight minute instrumental piece. Some pretty guitar impressions. For the Voiceless has actually voices in it. Tarr is singing and strumming his guitar.

And then it's over. But there is coming more as Nathan told me. In the mean time check out his older tape and of course this one, because it is such a joy to listen to! Perfect for this warm Sunday.
