Victor Florence
I'm so happy you found me
If you follow this blog you perhaps followed Tampa, FL based Victor Florence, too. Good for you, because most of his recordings (e.g. the seasons series) disappeared from his bandcamp page. But since "The Victor Florence Experience is like extracting enough iron from human blood to make a sword" he is a prolific and wholehearted musician. Always improves his songs as you can follow on his soundcloud.
There are plenty of singer-songwriters out there and I guess it's hard to step out of the shadows of guys like Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, Connor Oberst, Leonard Cohen, Robert Zimmermann and so on, but Victor is forging his sword, tries this and that, records simple guitar tunes and add more instruments on top. He whispers and longs and screams and tells his storie.
It's great to hear this development and his new single, "i'm so happy you found me" shows the next step or a sidestep to become a whole.
Borderline is a ghostly and dark lo-fi tune that builds up with and left you with creeps. Joy is the opposite, it's a dreamy song about ... I have no idea. It could be everything so you are open to put your own into this...
joy
the joy of yes again
of yes behind the walls
joy
the joy of light bulbs
all singing underground
god and all his angels
swim beneath the j train
calling up for me this time
joy
the joy of shame again
of bodies in the dark
joy
the joy of hate again
of hate towards the hours
god and all his angels
swim beneath the j train
calling up for me this time
