Jan Mörgenson - Fensch

Today, Jan Mörgenson from Metz, France sent me an email, written in German, telling me about his upcoming record and it turns out he is originally from Denmark and is playing the steel string guitar in the always-appreciated style of Mr. Fahey's American Primitivism. This awful opening sentence already tells you half of the story, and at this point you might have already decided if you want to listen to Mörgenson's music and explore it further or not.

The other part of the story is, that Fensch is made for a short movie called "La Vallée" and so the music on this short EP (with 3 additional bonus tracks to download) has some cinematic qualities. And talking about cinematic music, what invokes pictures of endless and wide landscapes - especially of the desert of the American West? Slide guitar. Maybe it's a cliché of European film makers to illustrate pictures of the American desert with slide guitar tunes. And indeed, the movie La Vallée is inspired by Americans like Gus van Saint, William Egglestone and Ry Cooder.

So I leave you with this and recommend to explore Jan Mörgenson's bandcamp, because the other two ep's you'll find there are very enjoyable solo guitar releases that you shouldn't miss! And also keep in mind that there is something new coming very soon on specific recordings
