Chillwave Stuff
Guerre; Kohwi - 2010 - Hidden Trees
Genre: Chillwave
Label: none/self
Chillwave seemed to be a big thing in the past months. I don´t really know because I actually didn´t care about it or didn´t have the opportunity to deal with it. I mean, it´s not bad at all - dreamy chillout-electropop-music created with samplings, synthies, drum machines and other stuff, great for relaxing (what else).
So I found two maybe lesser known examples from this genre and shortly wanted to introduce to those of you who don´t know (and of course others too).
The first one is Guerre from Sidney, veeeery dreamy and relaxed stuff, almost ambient, with a nice soft, high voice you´ll really enjoy.
Download various songs including a coversong of Beyoncé Knowles at soundcloud.
In comparison to Guerre the music of Kohwi seems to be a little more experimental due to the extensive use of samples, different beats and rythms and the electronic fiddling.
Download the album "Hidden Trees" (cover art above) here or here or buy the tape here. My personal faves are the first and last one, "Reeling the Warmth" and "Under Close", a wonderful piano driven piece.
Other stuff, like some remixes for other chillwave bands like Toro y moi or Blackbird Blackbird, you can also find at soundcloud.
